CEPAM (Permanent Center for Music Activities) is a permanent project of the Reggio Emilia ARCI Committee. ARCI (Italian Cultural and Recreative Association) is the biggest no profit organization in the cultural field with about 1 200 000 members in Italy.
CEPAM, since 1981, has been active in music didactics and in spreading and enhancing musical culture, both in music schools management and in other specific projects.
CEPAM main characteristics are the total open mindedness towards any music genre, the attention to the continuing evolution of the music language, and the consciousness of the importance of the music culture as a catalyst of positive values and as emotional vehicle.
Organization: CEPAM has a Secretary’s Office, a Director’s Office and a team of more than 50 musician-teachers who, thanks to their different experiences and origin, are able to face and deal with a huge area in the field of music. Besides, they are constantly stimulated by the creative dynamism which has been one of CEPAM main features ever.
Further on the main area of CEPAM activities are described. If you are interested in any of them you may ask for a more detailed programme.
1- Schools of Music
The organization and management of schools of music is no doubt CEPAM main activity and in this field we have well known experience and skills.
CEPAM schools are open people, no metter their age, music genre, level and ambitions and seek for a constant and evolving research of new offers and ways to follow students during their music courses.
With an average of 900 students CEPAM is the most important school of music in the Emilia Romagna region and one of the biggest in Italy. Beyond numbers, what makes CEPAM a unique experience is the deep connections with our territory, people and institutions.
The school headquarters are located in Reggio Emilia, with rooms for lessons and offices. Here more than 300 students may choose among about 50 courses and workshops. Here the activities are also organized for the other 12 schools in 12 towns of the Reggio Emilia province. At the end of the school year each of them has its school concert where students perform and receive their frequency certificates.
2 - Music activities in centers for elderly people
The original project developed by CEPAM came from the intuition that elderly people can get great benefit from targeted and continuous music group activity (not to be confused with individual musicotherapy).
3 - Music activities for disabled in specialized centers
As the elderly, the disable can take great benefit from qualified music activities. These laboratories are created and developed in tune and agreement with the staff of each center.
4 - Music itineraries
Music itineraries are workshop on specific subjects among the variety of music aspects with use of concert-lessons, stages, conferences, guided listening …
Some examples are:
- understanding music
- Music and peoples
- A world of instruments (exhibition of more than 100 instruments from all 6 continents)
- Instruments’ comparison
- Music in history
- Band’s instruments
- European musical Romanticism and the Emilian composers of the 19th century
- Journey inside the Emilian popular music
5 - CEPAM workshops for kindergarten, primary, secondary and high schools
All modern pedagogical concepts recognize that music has a fundamental role in young people’s personal and cultural education of young people. CEPAM offers a wide range of projects which are specifics for age group and schools, as well as the possibility to build up new customized workshops.
Some of the existing offers are:
- Music workshop

6 - Workshops for G.E.T. (Territorial Educational Groups)
These kind of workshops are specific to integrate after-school activities of young people in straitened circumstances. The music language helps them to communicate and get better relations with others with the use of activities as “playing and singing together”, building up new instruments with recycled materials, drama, creating small soundtracks…
7 - Music activities in communities for the recovery of drug addicted people
These activities have been implemented by CEPAM for many years with rewarding results. Each year the activities are updated due to the willing and need to customize the program on people attending it.
8 - Music workshops for “Summer’s Playing-Fields” for kids
This project, for 4 to 12 years old kids, aims at introducing young people to the world of music during the summer holiday period.
